Aim
Automatic defibrillators are becoming more common at work and in public places, not just with the emergency services. This certificated course is designed to refresh the knowledge of a First Aider in resuscitation techniques and to give delegates a working knowledge of, and hands-on skills with, the Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Who should attend
Any individuals who have access and are expected to use an automatic defibrillator either at work or recreation. If you have, or are considering, making a defibrillator available to your staff or customers, this is an essential course

Benefits
In an emergency, a first aider can supply basic life support to a casualty. With the addition of correct use of an automatic defibrillator, the chances of survival for the casualty with heart failure are significantly increased. This training will ensure that your first aiders have the knowledge and confidence to use a defibrillator in an emergency.

  • Assessment of a casualty Checking Response, Opening the airway Checking Breathing and Pulse
  • Recovery position
  • Artificial Ventilation and CPR techniques
  • Anatomy of the human Heart
  • Regulatory system, Heart rhythms (normal & abnormal)
  • Chain of survival
  • Role of the AED in Basic life support

  • What is it? What does it do?
  • The controls and procedure of use
  • How to connect to a casualty
  • Use to defibrillate a casualty
  • Safety & maintenance
Teaching strategies and methods
The course combines tutorials and demonstrations with student centered methods such as groupwork, case studies, question and answer sessions, skill demonstrations and practice with a defibrillator.

Award
A certificate of attendance will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.
