Aim
This course is designed to give delegates a basic understanding of the current COSHH Legislation and guidance and methods of assessing risks in the workplace.
Who should attend
Staff, employees & management who are responsible for storage, handling and/or purchasing chemicals and hazardous substances for the workplace. The course content can also be modified to reflect prior knowledge and specific hazardous substances in your workplace.
Benefits
Once trained, delegates will have good background knowledge of all aspects of the COSHH regulations and be able to carry out a workplace assessment or harmful substances. They will also be able to create and maintain records of assessments.

- Risk Assessments
- Who is responsible, how to assess
- Workplace Hazards (Chemicals & others.)
- Specific Hazards in your workplace, Dangers to employees, Hazard control measures
- Hazard Data sheets. What are they? Where are they from? How to record and store.
- Control strategies & methods
- Keeping records, company policies
- Prevention & control of exposure. Methods & results. (Exhaust ventilation if appropriate)
- Occupational exposure limits
- Safety Data acquisition
- Personal Protective equipment (PPE)
- Emergency Procedures
- First aid requirements, accident reporting & investigation
Teaching strategies & methods
The course combines tutorials & demonstrations with student centered methods such as groupwork, case studies, question & answer sessions, skill demonstrations & practice.
